To become a successful court reporter, more than just a court reporting diploma is required. You should possess superior listening skills. You should be able to concentrate in hectic situations. You should perform well under pressure, and you should be able to type like a maniac (which means super-fast, but preferably with better accuracy). The National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) actually requires graduates of certified court reporter programs to possess machine shorthand typing speeds of at least 225 words per minute.
